Mind Power Tips to Free Yourself From Clutter and Messes
One of the first steps to achieving supremacy over your mind and life, requires that you master your internal and external environments. Learning how to maximize and control your mind, requires that you also learn how to maintain a clean and orderly physical environment.
Easier said than done, isn’t it? Since creating clutter and messes has been a regular way of life for most, it will take daily mind discipline to break the old patterns. But believe it or not, you can still become a “neat freak”. The following are Mind Power tips designed to help you develop the mindset that will support you in keeping your external environment clean and organized.
See projects as energy, and reclaim your energy! Think about the energy it takes to start a new process or project. Also, realize that when you finish a project, you get to reclaim all the personal energy you put into it during the process. Every unfinished project is trapped with unclaimed energy waiting to return to its owner upon completion. See your projects through to their completion, and you get to all of your energy back, plus more!
Pretend people are coming over for dinner, every night. You know how you race around, trying to make your place perfect before folks come over for dinner? Pretend people are coming to your house every day, and you will be assured to have a neat home. In fact, once you start keeping your place tidied regularly, you will most likely find yourself inviting people over more often.
Create a clean-up schedule that you are religious about. Write down the date and time you are committing to yourself to clean a room, closet, drawer, or nook. Make a weekly schedule that you can adhere to. Do not allow yourself certain luxuries until you have fulfilled your planned clean-up for the day. This will help you get into the habit of keeping things clean and organized.
Celebrate your cleaning accomplishments. Congratulate yourself for keeping up with your cleaning schedule by doing something special for yourself. For example: because I adhered to my cleaning schedule this week, I will treat myself to that massage I’ve been really wanting.
Let it go, let it go, let it go…. Donate, sell, or throw away anything you have not used over the past 12 months, and probably will not use over the next twelve months. Holding on to superfluous, useless items only drags your energy and vitality down.
Enroll the significant people in your life into supporting your new way of living. Let the people closest to you know how important your new commitment to keeping a neat environment is to you. Tell them how you would like them to support you during this process, and ask them to become committed to your commitment. This way, you can all work together as a team.
Slow down and take your time. Unconsciously laying cluttering items around typically occurs when you are in a hurry to get to your next commitment or plan. Slow down. Breathe deeply. Stay focused on finishing what you’ve started, before you go running off to your next process.
See your environment through the eyes of a stranger. It is easy to allow your physical environment to become part of the background woodwork. At least once a week, walk around your place and see it as though you have never stepped foot in your place. You will be amazed at the clutter you didn’t notice before. This will help you be aware of how you are keeping your environment.
Rearrange regularly. Move your furniture and movable appliances around as often as possible. This will help you keep your outlook and your environment renewed, vital, and refreshed.
See yourself as a viable “NEAT FREAK”. Start owning the identity as a “neat freak”. Once you own that identity and believe it, you will begin living up to your identity. At this point, being neat will be automatic for you. Repeat after me: “I am a neat freak!”
